Museums
Visit the Folklore Museum housed in the mansion of Nerantzis Aivazis, in the village of Doltsos, the Byzantine Museum, where mainly Byzantine portable icons from the 12th to the 17th century are exhibited, the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, and the Museum of Costume, housed in the mansion of Afos Emmanuel and has an important collection of traditional local costumes.
Dragon's Cave
Starting the short tour of the lake from the south beach, make a first stop at the Dragon’s Cave in Kastoria – one of the most interesting in all of Europe – which is “hidden” on the lakeside road just 4 km. from the centre! Its otherworldly beauty also evokes a sensation on a 300 m long visitable route. your gaze will be captivated by the rich decoration with stalactites, stalagmites and lakes.
Monastery of Panagia Mavriotissa
After the Cave, a visit to the Monastery of Panagia Mavriotissa, built in 1802, next to the lake is mandatory. The elaborate frescoes of the catholicon as well as those outside, depicting Byzantine emperors, cannot help but win your admiration.
Settlement 5000 BC
At a distance of 7 kilometers from Kastoria is Dispelio, where the first lake settlement of 5000 BC was discovered. and where the first Greek Home Museum was created. The petrified forest of Nostimos, 20 million years old, is a unique geological monument. Between the foothills of Grammos and the banks of Aliakmons is built the beautiful Nestorio, where the monastery of Panagia Tsoukas is located.
Skiing
The small ski resort is only 22 km away. from the city of Kastoria and is located at an altitude of 1610 m to 1880 m on Mount Vernos in the region of Oxia. Its landscape is beautiful with pistes carved between beech trees and panoramic views.
