The cave of Petralona is located approximately one kilometer from the village of Petralona in the Chalkidiki prefecture of Macedonia. It has been open to the public since 1979. In the cave, Aris Poulianos discovered the traces of Archanthropic habitation of approximately 700,000 years, according to his own estimation of the oldest European ancestors that have been found to date.
It covers an area of 10,400 m2, the length of its corridors reaches 2,000 m and the temperature throughout the year remains constant at 17°C (±1ºC).
